Arrive to Ballina your base for the next 2 nights. Relax into your accommodation and enjoy a mouth-watering treat upon arrival with a welcoming cup of tea.  Enjoy a short stroll around the Quay Village in Ballina & learn the history of the Crete Boom, Ballina’s own concrete ship which keeps watch over the quay.  Enjoy a traditional Irish Bacon and Cabbage dinner around the table with the group in your accommodation, washed down with an Irish coffee made with Jameson, Ireland’s favourite whiskey.  Afterwards, learn to pull a pint of Guinness in one of Ballina’s pubs, followed by a traditional Irish music session and singsong.

Today we will take a trip south into the wilds of the Ox Mountains for a wonderful walk with your local Guide.  This area is home to a herd of ‘Feral’ goats and the stunning views from the Western slopes will take your breath away. Your Guide will teach you about local traditions and inform you of the area that is so rich in heritage.  Afterwards, enjoy a visit to Foxford Woollen Mills, renowned for their fine wool rugs & throws worldwide.  Return to your accommodation for a lovely cup of hot tea & freshly baked scones with whipped cream and jam.  That evening enjoy your evening meal in one of Ballina’s highly recommended local restaurants.

Immersing yourself into the Wild Atlantic Way in this remote corner of western Ireland, you will be brought on a beautiful walk, discovering abbeys, monasteries and old ecclesiastical centres along the way.  Continuing from the village of Killala with its perfectly in-tact Round Tower, you then have an opportunity to see Downpatrick Head, learn the legend of this famous place & admire the amazing cliffs & bird life that make this so famous.  From there, your focus turns to bog, as you discover the fascinating history of Ireland’s boglands at the wonderful Ceide Fields.  Continuing to move west, you arrive at Benwee Head where you will be blown away by the beauty of this corner of Ireland as your Guide takes you on a spectacular walk here.  At the end of your day you continue on to Achill Island for your next 2 nights.   Dinner in a nearby restaurant on Achill.

Walk Details – Distance: 14kms. Duration: 4.5 hours.

Today you discover life on Ireland’s largest island – Achill – as you walk in the footsteps of the ancients with a settlement here dating back to the 5th century. Your Guide will bring you on a terrific hike which includes a visit to the “Deserted Village” at the foot of the majestic Slievemore Mountain.  Along the way, a picnic lunch is a treat as you soak in the tremendous beauty of this place.  With a bit of free time in the afternoon to enjoy & savour this magical place, you will also have an opportunity to see why Paul Henry (famous for his paintings of a very traditional Ireland) was so inspired by this place, along with Heinrich Bolle.  Dinner & overnight on Achill Island.

Walk Details – Distance: 12kms. Duration: 4 hours.

Moving east, you leave the peace & tranquillity of Achill and stay by the Wild Atlantic Way to reach the vibrant town of Westport.  With a short stop here to view some of the gaily painted shops & pubs, you then continue to one of Ireland’s most famous landmarks – “The Reek”.  This is Croagh Patrick, Ireland’s best known pilgrim mountain & a place that abounds with pilgrims on “Reek Sunday”.  Your Guide will take you on a wonderful walk around the lower hills of this amazing mountain with super views across Clew Bay & back to Achill Island where you have journeyed from.  At the end of your walk, you continue further south and west to take a ferry to Inishbofin Island off the shores of Connemara.  This is your destination for your next 2 nights north, as you enjoy more of the idyllic pace of life that Ireland’s islands are so famous for.  Dinner & overnight on Inishbofin.

Walk Details – Distance: 14kms. Duration: 4.5 hours.

This is your day for immersion into another glorious island off Ireland’s coast as you have the opportunity to discover what makes Inishbofin such a special place.  With time to enjoy the whole island, one of the locals will give you an introduction before you continue for the day discovering the more isolated corners of the island.  Returning to your accommodation with time to relax in the afternoon, you can soak in the atmosphere of the place, chill and read a book, or go looking for some of the rare birds that make their way here each year during their migration.  Enjoy your dinner & overnight on “Bofin”.

Walk Details – Distance: 12kms. Duration: 4 hours.

Your final day gives you another wonderful opportunity to discover the magic of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, as you take to a smaller boat & transfer across to Inishark Island.  Here, a local guide will enthral you with the history and legends of this now deserted island.  The long tradition of life here is an amazing story, while the understandably harsh winter conditions drove the islanders to safer pastures.  By the time you leave here, you will have a totally different understanding of island life, its peace, tranquillity and challenges as you return to “Bofin”.  Enjoy some great pub grub before leaving as you prepare to spend your last evening in the safety of the mainland in Clifden.

Walk Details – Distance: 10kms. Duration: 3.5 hours.

Departure after your final breakfast together.  From Clifden, an excellent bus service will take you to Galway where you can avail of bus/rail connections to all regions of Ireland.  There is also an “Airport Bus” that offers a direct link with Dublin Airport from Clifden daily.
