Today you will pick up your car rental and drive to the lovely village of Laragh. From here you will follow a lovely trail through forestry to reach Glendalough.

Here, you can enjoy time exploring the old monastic village that was once a hive of activity over 1,500 years ago. This is a beautifully tranquil place & offers a wonderful opportunity to explore more of the surrounding landscape while also taking the time to explore the historical remains that abound in this region. There are several marked hiking trails of varying lengths and difficulties to choose from within the valley. Enjoy a challenging hike to the viewing point overlooking the beautiful lakes in the valley or a gentle stroll along the lakeshore to soak up the flora and fauna in the valley.

Overnight: Laragh

This morning you’ll drive south to Cork, Ireland’s “Second City.” Along the way, stop at the historic Rock of Cashel in County Tipperary to wander a spectacular group of medieval buildings set on a limestone outcrop, once home to the High Kings of Ireland. From there, you will continue your way to Cork, taking the rest of the afternoon to spend as you choose.

Overnight: Cork

After breakfast, drive across the mountainous terrain that separates Cork County and the Kingdom of Kerry, until you arrive in the town of Killarney. After settling into your hotel, switch gears and either lace up your hiking boots or rent a bike to explore the country’s oldest national park. Discover Killarney National Park’s iconic landscape as you set out to its three lakes, Lough Leane, Muckross Lake, and Upper Lake. If you’re up for it, you can join a kayaking tour of Lough Leane, though there is the option to take a boat cruise.

The park is home to a number of noteworthy historic buildings and monuments, including a 15th-century Franciscan friary known as Muckross Abbey and Ross Castle a structure that sits stoically on the eastern edge of Lough Leane. Consider staying in the park long enough to take in the sunset before finding a pub for your dinner.
